La Gomera Through The Seasons
Find out whihc season suits you best for a break on the beautiful island of La Gomera, staying at the stunning Hotel Jardín Tecina.

Are you wanting to visit the beautiful island of La Gomera and stay at the stunning Hotel Jardín Tecina, but not sure when’s best to go? This blog will explain what to expect during each season and what’s best to get up to.

Spring

Throughout the months of March, April and May you can expect temperatures to reach highs of 24°C and lows of 16°C.You’ll have 8 hours of sunshine a day, meaning there will be plenty of time for you to go out and explore the island, as well as relax on a sunbed and soak up the sun.

March and April are considered the best months for hiking due to the ideal warm climate, coupled up with a spectacle of tropical flowers on the hillsides. Although, it can chill off in the evenings, so a light cardigan or jacket will suffice.

Garajonay National Park is a great place to visit as its awakening at this time, you’ll be the first people to see the spectacle of the forest changes. New shades of green will be sprouting out of the trees, floral scents will fill the air and multicoloured flowers will cover the forest floor.

Summer

Summer in La Gomera is over the months of June, July and August and is - of course - the hottest season. June is the driest month of the year and August reaches the warmest temperatures around 30°C, meaning this is the perfect time to visit if you wish to soak up the maximum amount of sun and avoid any spells of rain.

Summer is also fiesta time so why not take part in celebrating the tradition of the Virgen de Candelaria on 15th August? You can enjoy the locals singing “romances” to the virgin, playing chácaras (a type of castanet)and the drums.

You may notice a large influx of tourists from Tenerife's Los Cristianos on a day trip to the island as the weather is glorious and there’s plenty to see and do. Many choose to escape to the beach and splash about in the sea but you could stay in the Hotel Jardín Tecina and enjoy the sun from the poolside.

Autumn

During the autumn months, you can expect pleasantly warm weather but there’s more chance of rain, compared to the spring and the evenings can cool off. However, the water temperatures are said to be the warmest in September due to being warmed up throughout the summer. If you’re planning on trying out watersports like paddle boarding, canoeing and snorkelling, this would be the ideal time to do it.

The autumn time also offers great hiking weather as it’s not too hot, nor too cold. It is recommended to wear layers as it can get chilly when attempting the Gran Ruta 18 hiking trail in Garajonay National Park as you’ll reach the highest point on the island.

More festivals are conducted during the autumn like Fiestas Columbinas, a festival dedicated to Christopher Columbus, who stayed in La Gomera before going on his travels. Join in the island’s celebrations of the rich history through parties and illuminations.

Winter

The cooler climate conditions experienced from December to February are perfect for golf as the temperatures sit between 17°C and 22°C.Hotel Jardin Tecina has its own golf course, Tecina Golf which is situated in the south, meaning you’ll experience low wind speeds that’ll work in favour of your game. Another popular activity during the winter months is trekking as many avid hikers prefer the even cooler temperatures.

A small amount of rain does occurring during December but there’s still plenty to do inside like spending the morning in the fitness centre at the Hotel Jardín Tecina or exploring the beautiful Church of Assumption and fascinating archaeological museum.

During the month of February look out for wild mushrooms growing in the Garajonay National Park as they’re in season. You can expect to see an abundance of toadstools, fungi and mushrooms including some edible ones.
